From Reddit to Lifelong Memories: Lily & Alex's Story

There are moments in my photography journey that remind me why I fell in love with this career in the first place.

This is one of them.

Every now and then, someone asks me, "How do your clients find you?" Sometimes it's Instagram. Sometimes it's Google. But one of my favorite answers is... Reddit.

Years ago, Lily came across my name because kind past clients had recommended me in a Boston Reddit thread. She reached out to ask about an engagement session and an intimate Boston elopement shortly after.

At the time, neither of us knew that one message would become years of memories together.

The Beginning

The day of our engagement session, Lily and Alex arrived with someone very special. Their adorable corgi, Eevee. As an animal lover, my answer was immediate. "Of course she's joining us!"

Our pets are family. They deserve to be part of our stories too.

Looking back now, some of my favorite photographs from that session aren't just of Lily and Alex. They're the ones with Eevee happily running between them, making us laugh and completely stealing the spotlight.

Sometimes those unplanned little moments become the ones we treasure the most. From the moment we started walking through Boston together, everything felt easy.

We laughed constantly.

We wandered through the city.

We talked as if we'd known each other much longer than an hour.

It never felt like a formal photoshoot.

It felt like spending an evening with friends.

Later, Lily wrote something that completely warmed my heart:

"My fiancé and I were so lucky to find Mim. She is such a great photographer and a genuinely amazing person. We are not used to being in front of a camera, but she made us feel at ease."

Reading those words reminded me of something I believe deeply. Beautiful photographs aren't only created by beautiful light. They're created when people feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

Their Boston Elopement

Not long after our engagement session, Lily reached out again. This time, it wasn't for another portrait session. It was to ask me to photograph one of the most important days of their lives.

The day began quietly at their hotel while they got ready together before we explored some of my favorite places in the city.

The Boston Public Garden.

The Massachusetts State House.

Acorn Street.

Christopher Columbus Park.

Boston City Hall, where they would officially become husband and wife.

One of the things I remember most wasn’t taking photographs. It was helping Lily button her dress, carrying bags from one location to another, holding bouquets, and running around with clear umbrellas when the forecast threatened rain. Popping biodegradable heart confetti. Celebrating with champagne after they were officially married.

Those little moments aren't written into a photographer's job description. But I've always believed that if I can make my couples' day easier, even in the smallest way, then that's exactly what I should do.

At one point, Lily surprised Alex with a second dress for a first look. It wasn't part of the original plan, but we made it happen anyway. Some of my favorite photographs from that day came from those spontaneous moments.

The next morning, I sent them sneak peeks, just as I always promise. Soon after, Lily updated her review.

One sentence especially stayed with me.

"She was more than just our photographer that day."

I don't think she realizes how much those words meant to me. Because that's exactly the kind of photographer I've always hoped to be. Someone who captures beautiful memories, yes. But also someone who helps people feel cared for.

Growing Together

One of the greatest gifts this career has given me is watching people grow.

A couple becomes newlyweds.

Newlyweds become parents.

Parents become a family.

After their wedding, Lily and Alex continued inviting me back to photograph their lives.

Their maternity session.

Their newborn session.

Their sweet little boy, Nathan.

Watching Nathan grow has been one of the greatest joys of my career. He is playful, curious, full of personality, and somehow manages to make every session feel like an adventure.

When I recently delivered their newest gallery, Lily wrote to me again.

"You captured Nathan's playful side so well. We take pictures of him every day, but this photoshoot was exactly what we needed."

That message made me smile because that's exactly what family photography is about. Not replacing the everyday phone photos. Preserving this season of life in a way that lets you pause, even years later, and remember exactly how it felt.

She also wrote something after their wedding gallery that I still think about today.

"The photos brought me back to that wonderful day... We have countless favorites."

If my photographs can bring someone back to one of the happiest days of their lives, then I've done my job.

More Than Clients

People sometimes ask me what my favorite type of photography is.

Weddings?

Families?

Newborns?

Graduation sessions?

The truth is... My favorite part isn't one particular type of session.

It's watching people grow.

It's seeing familiar names appear in my inbox.

It's watching couples become parents.

It's photographing children year after year.

It's knowing that someone trusts me enough to keep inviting me back into their lives.
